CKIR celebrated its 15 years of operation

28.08.2014

Center for Knowledge and Innovations Research, CKIR, celebrated its 15 years of operation with the annual workshop on August 20-21, 2014.

True to its tradition, the workshop brought together researchers and practitioners from different fields of research to share the latest insights and research results in the area of economic, business and societal renewal. The workshop addressed questions regarding the role of firms and public agencies in the societal renewal, and means to cope with the ongoing major transformations, caused by advances in technology development, globalization and demographic shifts.

Professor (Emeritus) Ikujiro Nonaka from Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo, Japan

The workshop was organized at Aalto University School of Business Töölö campus and was attended by 100 people. The agenda included key notes addressing the complexity issues and potential solutions, as well as panel discussions focusing on specific areas of study, namely smart cities, technological developments and new explorative research methodologies.

The talks emphasized the need to deepen our visioning capacity through better understanding of the ongoing societal transformations and their impacts to the different layers of society. We should create meanings that resonate with the values of people. The key notes further called for increased experimentation and faster move to piloting phase, and thus to accelerate the development and adaptation of new concepts, business models and technologies. With the magnitude of the challenges and changes today, we will need to join our forces and integrate the different resources, develop our orchestration capabilities and new research tools and methods, even infrastructures, and learn from the past experiments.
