Academy of Finland granted funding for a big data project

19.06.2014

Department of Management Studies got 408 500 euro funding for a project entitled "Strategy work and big data".

The project will examine how information systems and business analytics change strategy work.

The project examines at the societal scale the changes big data may herald to management practices and norms, as individual discretion, tacit expertise, and narrative strategizing are complemented, challenged, and to some extent replaced by software simulations and algorithm-based analysis of databases.

On firm-level, the project will examine transition processes and new practices through which new data systems are integrated and leveraged in strategy work. The project also studies the qualitative and quantitative implications that use of information systems and the related data-driven decision processes have on strategic decisions companies make.

The project runs from 2014 to 2017 and its principal investigator is professor Henri Schildt

Academy of Finland granted 21 million euros to projects researching culture and society. The Academy of Finland got 375 applications of which 34 got funded.
